Today

When I was a kid,
today was mostly just today.
I laughed until I peed my shorts,
changed them and did not miss a beat.

I sat by the creek.
I walked to the corner store.
I ate the chocolate bars.
I did not worry about Monday.

Somewhere along the way,
I started living three days from now.
Having conversations that have not happened,
worrying early and calling it being prepared.

So today, I am a kid.
I will deal with things when they happen.
I will be here while I am here.
Tomorrow can have me when it gets here.
