The Unsent Invitation

I wrote, Come over,
then looked around the room.

Laundry in the basket,
A plant shedding leaves.
The good cups somewhere
behind the everyday ones.

I nearly added,
When I have things together.

Instead, I moved the laundry,
put the kettle on,
and sent the first two words.

You arrived with a bottle of rosé.
We drank from the good glasses,
and bathed my home with laughter.
